Recently I learned the concept of emotional and intellectual understanding. Sometimes we understand something at an intellectual level, but do not particularly feel for it at an emotional level. What are some ways that you were able to connect with sustainability and develop emotional understanding?

I think the only way to be sustainable sustainably is to be emotionally connected to the cause, because with everything we do burn-out is imminent and possibly the only way to avoid that is to have a constant drive that comes from a place of emotion and sensitivity.
I believe most (if not all) forms of activism are rooted in empathy and compassion. The concept of sustainability or sustainable development is based on the ideas of inclusivity and diversity. Although it is important to read theory and have a scientific understanding of sustainability issues, developing solutions to this can only happen when there is an equal amount of emotional investment involved as well.
That's a really relevant point to bring up, I think that having an emotional understanding of sustainability inculcates a sense of motivation and passion in people towards sustainability. Interactive events like poetry, cultural events, and so on help ignite a sense of responsibility in people which is equally as important as having an intellectual understanding of sustainability.
