Coastal resilience is the ability of a community to bounce back after natural hazards like hurricanes and coastal storms. The necessity to strengthen this resilience on a global scale is becoming essential, as climate change is causing these hazardous events to become more frequent and intense. Some ways of achieving this include integrating nature-based solutions for erosion and seal-level rise, as well as resilient infrastructure, into coastal management strategies. Nature-based solutions rely on natural processes and features to sustainably manage ecosystems, and are gaining ground in contemporary environmental strategies. Moreover, coastal retreat is also gaining momentum, as its co-benefits could help protect coastal communities.
