Sustainable Development Goals
In 1987, the United Nations’ Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Consequently, the UN established 17 specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) designed to bring peace and prosperity to the lives of all present and future people around the world by 2030.
In the years that have followed, many attempts have been made to fulfil these goals, many have succeeded but many have failed. Our goal is to create a report that truly represents the attempts made at sustainable development in India. To achieve this goal, we've created the Sustainable Development Goals Research Fellowship. Through this fellowship program, the fellows will take a deeper look at SDGs at India's state and union territory level. Besides conducting research, the fellows will write articles, incorporating their learnings into the reports they create.
Stipend: INR 5000
Working hours: 20hrs/week
As a Research Fellow, you will learn tools like QGIS and RTI filing from industry professionals and incorporate the learnings into your research and reports.
You will be responsible for executing the research project, managing research data, analyzing results, and communicating research findings to various stakeholders.
The fellowship will be for a 6-month-period, starting in April 2023. By the first week of May, we expect to be done with the training workshops and to have filed the RTIs.
In May, we will start with the primary data research, which we expect to conclude by the first week of July. This will be followed by adding narrative to the data.
By August, we aim to finalise a report for wider public release in September. With the report, we aim to expand the available data on India's SDG performance.
We are looking for 3 Fellows for a 6-month-long SDG Research Fellowship, starting in April. Experience in research and data analysis is not necessary but preferred. Students and recent graduates aged 16-25 from tier 2 & tier 3 cities or from rural India are preferred. We strongly encourage applicants from backgrounds such as SC, ST, OBC, trans, queer, and/or religious minority groups to apply. You may highlight your background in the application—we greatly value diversity on our team.
